McCuistion and the late Mayor McCuistion of Paris, died Monday at 4 a.m. in a Fort Worth hospital, after a week's serious illness. She was dean of girls at W. C. Stripling High School in Fort Worth, where she taught a number of years. The funeral will be held in Paris sometime Wedness afternoon, Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home being in charge of arrangements. Surviving besides her mother are two brothers, Dr. W. R. McCuistion, Fort Worth and Dr. H. M. McCuistion, Sioux City, Iowa; four nieces and two nephews. Born in Paris, 12 Jun 1907, Aletha McCuistion was a daughter of Ed H. and Eva (Regenold) McCuistion, and was a member of First Methodist Church here. Her father was an outstanding civic leader of paris, a longtime banker and business man, noted as a local historian and as a Bible teacher. After graduation from Paris High School, Miss McCuistion attended Texas Woman's University, then Texas State college for Women in Denton, where she received her AB and BS degrees, her master of arts degree being conferred by Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. She had also done extensive work in the field of guidance and counseling. she was a Member of the Principals and Vice-Principals Association; Council of Administrative Women, the Texas State Teachers Association and National Education Association." Leva was born on October 18, 1933 in Elkhorn, MO to John Bryon and Nora E. (Norris) Cain. She first married Howard E. McGinnis of Richmond on August 8, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1958. She later married Kenneth Charles Penny of Stet, MO on August 17, 1960. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2009. Survivors include three sons and three daughters-in-law, Johnny and Vickie McGinnis of Hardin, MO, Dwayne and Marsha Penny of Stet, MO and Stephen and Jami Penny of Hardin, MO; one daughter and one son-in-law, Belinda and Darrell Flick of Carrollton, MO; one brother and one sister-in-law, Byron “LeRoy” and Linda Cain of Richmond; 8 grandchildren , Jeremy McGinnis and his wife, Jamie, Julie (McGinnis) and her husband, Scott McClure, Derek Flick, Kayla (Flick) and her husband, Daniel Harris, Mary Penny, Emma Penny, Addison Penny and Carson Penny; 8 great-grandchildren, Kinley McClure, Kottin McClure, Lindsey Clemens, Kassie McGinnis, Kaden McGinnis and Karson Harris; and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Amaryllis Neff; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was a cook at the Stet High School for 10 years. Over the years Leva was a member of the Jolly Jill’s Couples Club in Richmond, Extension Club in Russellville, MO and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Norborne. Leva loved to garden and play cards. Leva has been a member of the Rock Falls Baptist Church since childhood. She lived in the Stet area most of her life. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. He was born April 1, 1963, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Charles McCuistion and Juanita Mae (Bentley) McCuistion. Tracy was employed with the city of Bellevue, Wash., as a water quality specialist for many years. Surviving are one son, Logan McCuistion, Bothell, Wash.; one daughter, Tanis McCuistion, Bothell; his parents, Charles and Juanita McCuistion, Blairstown; and one brother, Charlie McCuistion, San Blas, Mexico. | 60 | Barbara J. McQuiston Jul 26, 2017 Barbara J. McQuiston, 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Kindred Nursing Home in Kokomo. She was born on August 31, 1933 to the late Lowell L. Grant Sr. and Esther P. (Fording) Grant. On March 8, 1958, she was married to Herbert McQuiston, and he survives. Barbara had worked for Delco Electronics for 30 years, retiring in 1983. Barbara was an active member of In His Image Church in Kokomo, and was also a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She enjoyed watching Notre Dame sports, the Chicago Cubs, and followed Kokomo Wildcats Basketball. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by one son, Norman E. (Debra S.)McFarland; her sister, Winifred A. (David W.) Fewell; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by two sons, Timothy G. McFarland, and Brian C. | 64 | Danny McCuiston Danny McCuiston, 75, of Murray, Kentucky, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 10, 1946, in Calloway County, Kentucky, to Allen F. McCuiston and Nava Lue Donelson McCuiston, who preceded him in death. Danny was retired from the Calloway County Sheriff’s office as a Deputy Sheriff after 14 years of service. He was a member of New Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and was a 50-year member of the Murray Masonic Lodge F&AM 105. Mr. McCuiston is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cunningham McCuiston of Murray, whom he married July 13, 1963, in Calloway County; two sons, Mark McCuiston and wife Trisha and Darrin McCuiston and wife Emily, all of Murray; five grandchildren, Slade McCuiston and wife Harmon, Easton McCuiston, Brittany Tacker and husband Aaron, Michael McCuiston and Riley McCuiston; and two great-grandchildren, John McCuiston and Seth Bean. | 65 | Donna Louise McCuiston Cash By Staff Reports on Jun 14, 2013, at 4:00 AM Donna Cash died June 8, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri following a long illness. Donna Louise McCuiston Cash was born in Tulsa, December 28, 1948, to Forest Don and Mary Louise McCuiston. She attended Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1967. She received her RN from Hillcrest Medical Center and attended the University of Tulsa to complete her BS in nursing. Donna began her career at Hillcrest and later worked at Doctors Hospital in the Emergency Room, a lifelong passion. Donna continued her career at St. John’s Hospital where she was Director of Adult Critical Care, and worked with the national transplant network. She was instrumental in the development of dialysis centers, including the one at Pine and Harvard near her childhood home. Donna then moved on to Denton Regional Medical Center in Texas where she was Executive Director of several units including ER, Cardiology and ICU. While she was in north Texas she named one of the top cardiology quick response programs in the nation. She was also instrumental in establishing a neighborhood clinic for low income families and worked to implement the plans for a new ER at the hospital. She was a member of the Serpotomists of Kansas City, the KC Board of the American Heart Association, Order of the Eastern Star and gave her time to many volunteer organizations supporting pets in the Kansas City area. Donna became Director of Cardiology of North Kansas City Hospital in 2003, and served in that role for nine years. She helped propel this program into one of the top noted cardiology programs in the city, and the state. She was energetic, imaginative, innovative, and one of those very rare administrators who would always get things done. She was never afraid to take a stance. She was admired and will be missed by the cardiologists and staff of North Kansas City Hospital. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dogs, Hans the Astound, Levi the Springer Spaniel and Bolivar, the world’s greatest Golden Retriever and she is survived by her Border Collie, Rocky and many family member and friends. She was born January 12, 1923 in Forsyth County to the late John Harvey Glasscoe and Fannie Bell Linville Glasscoe. Mrs. Reed was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church and was the owner and operator of McCuiston Nursery. She is preceded in death by her first husband Jackson H. McCuiston in 1983, her second husband Eugene Alexander Reed in 2000, a son Richard McCuiston in 1969 and three sisters and three brothers. Surviving are three children, Treva Kay Fuller and husband Stan, Ronnie McCuiston and wife Gail and Jackie Furches and husband John; a special daughter, Vickie Sullivan and husband Chris; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; two step children, Tommy Reed and wife Tammy and Linda Lynch; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Linda and Jimmy Zimmerman and Jeannette Cook and one God child, Sonja Cornatzer and husband Billy. She was born in Howard County on Jan. 30, 1917, the daughter of Sheridan F. and Loruma (Templin) Buchanan. She was a graduate of Howard Township High School.. In 1938, she married Carl Jones who preceded her in death in 1975. Their children were Max L. Jones and James L. "Jim" Jones. In 1978, Eva married Harley Wilson who passed away in 1987. From this marriage she embraced Harley's children who include Charles Wilson, Tom Wilson, Carol Swank, Max Wilson, Linda Rouch and Mary Lou White. In 1990, Eva married Edward Troyer, and he passed away in 1999. Eva welcomed his children into her life. They are Howard Troyer, George Troyer, Tom Troyer, Martha Troyer and Ruth Bracht.. Eva moved in 2003 to the Baptist Retirement Home in Okmulgee, Okla. to be near her son, Jim. She was a member of Galveston United Methodist Church. In former years, she attended Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church, Galveston and Howard Township Home EC Club and Cass County Farm Bureau. Eva volunteered at St. Jospeh Hospital for several years. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stiching, reading and working with flowers.. Surviving are her son, Jim Jones, Okmulgee, Okla., and three great-grandsons, Alex Jones, Preston Jones and Donavan Johnson, Indiana, nieces, Bonnie Skoglan, Bedford, Susanne Armstrong, Galveston and special friend Lavern McKee, Okmulgee, Okla.. | 69 | Faye's Story Faye McQuiston, 89, died on January 29, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Faye Clem McQuiston was born on January 23, 1928 in Noble County Oklahoma in the Sumner community. His parent parents were Beryl Faye McQuiston and Irene Josie (Tillman) McQuiston. He was reared on a farm in Noble County, attended a small, one room school named Windy Center located about 10 miles east of Perry, Oklahoma and Sumner school; graduating from Sumner High School in 1945. He entered Oklahoma A&M College in the fall of 1945 on the advice of his Uncle Keith McQuiston with little idea of what that was all about. After two years of having a good time with a dismal record, he left that endeavor to assist an uncle with his equipment sales business, transporting farm equipment from Oklahoma to Nebraska, and other northern states. With the Korean conflict looming he sold his truck and worked as a sales clerk for the Western Auto store in Perry, Oklahoma until he entered the United States Army in the fall of 1950. After basic training where his ROTC instruction from Oklahoma A&M paid off, he served with an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Squad at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland until he entered Engineering Officers Candidate School (OCS) at FT. Belvoir, Virgina as a Staff Sergeant. Following graduation from OCS as a Second Lieutenant he served in a training unit at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for a time before going to Korea. In Korea he served in the 622nd Engineering Field Maintenance Company responsible for heavy maintenance on large earth moving equipment. While there he became the Commanding Officer of the unit. Upon rotation back to the United States he became the Post Engineering Field Maintenance Officer at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri until his discharge on August 15, 1955. He was quite proud of his military service and credited it with laying a sound foundation for his professional career. He met Helen Webb Whitemore while serving in the Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. They were married in the post chapel on August 16, 1955, the day after his release from active duty and left for Stillwater, Oklahoma where he reentered Oklahoma State University. With the help of Helen working and the GI Bill, he was as honor student, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1958 and a Masters Degree in 1959 both in Mechanical Engineering. They moved to Ft. Worth, Texas in 1959 where he was employed as an Engineer by General Dynamics Corporation and in 1961 moved to Arlington, Texas where he was employed as a Research Scientist by Chance Vought Corporation later becoming Ling-Temco-Vought Corporation. While there he taught at night at Arlington State University. Finally the lure of teaching brought him back to OSU in 1962. In 1967 McQuiston was granted a National Foundation Faculty Fellowship to attend Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, to pursue his PhD, graduating in 1970. The family returned to OSU the fall of 1969 and Faye continued his tenure at OSU. McQuiston was a registered Professional Engineer and active in The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) during his professional life having served on many local and society committees and held many society offices including The Society Board of Directors and The Executive Committee. He was a member of the Central Oklahoma Chapter of ASHRAE where he held every office and many committee chairs rarely missing a meeting. He treasured his many friends in ASHRAE and the chapter. He was an ASHRAE Fellow and Life Member and received many awards including the Distinguished Service Award, The E.K. Campbell Award of Merit and the Region VIII Award of Merit. He was widely known for his expertise in the air-conditioning field having established a strong academic and research program at Oklahoma State University. Following retirement in 1990 he volunteered his expertise widely to local organizations, churches, the Central Oklahoma Chapter and the ASHRAE Historical Committee; writing in numerous historical papers and received the Society Lou Flagg Historical Award in 2016. He was the author of many technical papers related to sciences of heating and air conditioning, and was the originator and principal author of the text, Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning- Analysis and Design, which was first published in 1977, printed in three foreign languages, widely used throughout the world, with the Sixth Edition released in 2005 and still widely used (2017). He served as a consultant for many years before and after his retirement. McQuiston often spoke at technical meetings and other gatherings and was used usually introduced as an "expert", a term he disliked. Mac was well educated in the teaching, research and application of the arts and sciences of Mechanical Engineering, especially Heating and Air Conditioning and the related sciences. He was always interested in teaching young and old alike in the right way to approach every situation efficiently, economically and to provide the best results. He worked to advance his own status only to the extent necessary to provide well for his family and the welfare of mankind. He was generous with his knowledge, but by his own admission, felt that most of education efforts generally were a failure. Mac loved to play golf and did so all over the US while traveling for ASHRAE. After retirement he became interested in making golf clubs for his own use and made many for others and gave away a lot of them. He knew many golf stories but his favorite on these occasions was this one: Harvey Pennick, the legendary golf coach for many years at Texas University and his wife were attending an annual meeting of the United States Golf Association in Kansas City where he was to be the keynote speaker at their banquet. While resting in their hotel room prior to the banquet, Harvey said to his wife, " I wonder how many golf teachers will be at the banquet?" his wife thinking for a moment replied, "I don't know how many great teachers will be there Harvey, but there will be one less then you think!" He always thought of that story when speaking to a group. Gerry, the first child of George Joseph and Eileen (Dunn) McQuiston, was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on May 16, 1947. He lived with his parents and grandparents, James W. and Louise (Cooley) McQuiston in Waltham. He attended the Fernald School and lived in Sudbury, Framingham, and Natick, happily spending summers at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Gerry was employed at Bowmar Electronics and the Wayside Inn. He was proud to be a hard worker, often recounting with precision his achievements. He had a facility for numbers and an extraordinary memory. Gerry enjoyed music, sports, biking, walking, swimming, good meals (especially his mother’s baked stuffed lobster), television series (especially Batman), and the ocean. He was happy at the beach, his transistor radio tuned to Red Sox games or the music of the fifties and sixties. He loved spending time with his parents at their home in Maine. Beginning as a teenager, he built an extraordinary collection of records and then CDs. He enjoyed making friends and finding ways to connect with others. The DJs at WBZ sent him pictures; the staff of the St. Paul, Minnesota call center enjoyed talking to him and remembered him at Christmas with cards. Gerry contributed to the lives of his family and friends in many ways and prayed for everyone he knew and many that he didn’t, asking for God’s blessing for each person by name. Gerry was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sisters and brothers and their spouses: Ellen and husband Mark Wallace, John McQuiston and wife Rita Loreti, Susan McQuiston, Timothy McQuiston and wife Marla, and Diane and husband, John Trant. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a 1938 graduate of Howard Township High School. He served in the Army during World War II. He attended Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church. | 73 | HARRY'S OBITUARY Harry “Lee” McQuiston, 84, of New Castle passed away surrounded by his beloved family Monday morning, June 21, 2021, following a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and heart disease. He never gave up. The prayers and support from so many gave him the strength to live on. Lee was born June 2, 1937, in New Castle, a son of the late Paul W. McQuiston, Sr. and Helen (Schneider) McQuiston. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1955 graduate of New Castle High School. On July 19, 1957, Lee married the love of his life, the former Barbara Waddington. Their years spent together were filled with love for one another. Lee worked for Conn Welding & Fabrication, New Castle, retiring as shop foreman after 42 years of employment. During retirement, he worked for Servedio Electric, also New Castle. Lee was a member of the former Kings Chapel United Methodist Church. A 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason, he was a member of Mahoning New Castle Lodge 243, and a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, New Castle. Lee loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who helped him endlessly over the last several years, and always looked forward to visits from Ava and Cooper. One of his favorite things was listening to his son tell stories, especially the experiences he had while working in the Secret Service. (nee Morris) Humberg, daughters Melisa Ann Humberg and Diane Sealy, sister Sharon Griffin Marsh, son-in-law William "Bill" Field, and former wife Betty Ann Seavers (mother of Melisa and Lynn). He is survived by daughters, Lynn Humberg Field, Gloria (Scott) Fullerton, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family and friends. Bill served proudly and with distinction in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during World War II. He graduated from Washington University with a degree in English. A master wordsmith throughout his life, he worked as a journalist and then as an executive in communications areas for Christian Board of Publication, Olin Corp., Decor Magazine, and then as co-founder and partner (with Iona) of MarketArt, which promoted artists and galleries from around the world to U.S markets. | 77 | James Curtis "J.C.” McChristian James Curtis "J.C.” McChristian, Jr. passed away peacefully the morning of October 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. J.C. was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on August 11, 1935 to James Curtis McChristian, Sr. and Thurza Virginia Shreve. He attended the University of Arkansas before serving in Korea as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. On June 27th, 1964, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Joyce Gattis. They soon welcomed two daughters, Janet and Rebecca. His family would always remain the most important part of his life. After beginning his financial career in the Arkansas poultry industry, he went on to become a founding member and the Chief Financial Officer of Systematics, Incorporated. A pioneering data processing firm at a time when computers were groundbreaking rarities, Systematics was later acquired by Alltel Corporation and is today a part of Fidelity Information Systems. J.C. was a similarly remarkable civic leader. As President of the Fort Smith Rotary Club, he was especially proud of their success vaccinating children against polio worldwide. He was a 33rd degree Master Mason in the Scottish Rite. A spiritual man and lifelong Methodist, J.C. was a member of the Fort Smith First United Methodist Church and, upon moving to Cleveland, Tennessee in 2013, attended Broad Street United Methodist Church. A fiercely loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, J.C. had an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball. He possessed a magnificent eye for model train layouts and an infectious sense of humor. He was an avid history buff, the family historian, and a most beloved grandfather who never failed to make his children and grandchildren laugh with him. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. | 79 | James McCuiston Obituary Obituary of James Joseph McCuiston James Joseph McCuiston, 76, of Kernersville died Monday, August 7, 2023. He was lovingly known to many as "Jim or Poochie". He was born September 10,1946, to Oscar Thomas and Pearl Robbins McCuiston and was a 1964 graduate of East Forsyth High School. As a 8th generation resident of Forsyth County, McCuiston was a veteran of the United States Air Force earning the rank of sergeant- serving in both France and Turkey. He spent the majority of his professional career honing his natural talent for operating heavy equipment, specifically bulldozers. He worked decades in Alaska, for Alaska General Construction Company on the Trans Alaska Pipeline, the state of Alaska and as an equipment operator on barges. Jim lived an unconventional life, having followed the Grateful Dead for an extended period and owning a music venue in Winston-Salem, he aptly named Sunshines. He had a love for dogs, especially German Shepherds, of which he trained while in the military. There was never a dog he met that didn't love him. He was also an avid "shagger" and enjoyed spending weekends dancing at any shag club or gathering that he could find. Ironically, he danced his last dance this past Sunday night, doing one of his favorite things up to the end. He could spin a story, some of which seemed unbelievable and far-fetched but right in step with his Scots-Irish lineage and always entertaining and colorful. He embraced his sobriety decades ago and spent the rest of his life mentoring and meeting others that were on a similar path through the Unity Hall ministry in Winston-Salem. Surviving are two sisters, Myrna Whitley and husband Barry of Farmington, N.C., Barbara Cleary of Mocksville, N.C.; brother, Thomas McCuiston and wife Cherry of Asheboro, N.C. He also had several nephews and nieces, Charles Cleary, Jr. of Boone, N.C., Brooke and Jake Cashion of Kernersville, N.C., Andrea and Charles Peyton of Birmingham, Alabama, Brian McCuiston and Ann-Marie Taylor of High Point, N.C., and Derek and Beth McCuiston of Winston-Salem. She worked as an office manager for B&W for many years and also was the Wampum Tax Collecter for 18 years. Jean loved working on her house and in the yard, and always kept it in good shape. She enjoyed the NFL and college basketball and especially enjoyed running football pools with her friends and family. Jean had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Melissa whom she loved very much. He attended the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Jack owned and operated a Ford dealership in Enterprise for four years. On April 6, 1939, he married Verla C. Eddlemon. They began ranching in the Wallowa Valley and then in 1947 moved to La Grande. In Union County, Jack raised registered Herefords and successfully rode and showed American Saddlebred horses throughout the Northwest during the 1950s. He was a retired American Horseshow Association Judge, past president of the Union County Cattlemen Association and was named Cattleman of the Year in 1969. He served on the La Grande School Board and was a member of the La Grande Country Club where he thoroughly enjoyed the tournaments and playing the game. Jack was a past member of the Elks, a lifetime member of the Joseph Masonic Lodge No. 81 of Wallowa County and a member of the Methodist Church. Known for his gentlemanly mannerisms and integrity as an adult, at an early age he developed empathy for the hardships people face in life through the work he did for his father, a pioneer doctor. He is survived by his wife of 72 years; his daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Sam Wade of Lostine, and Jean and Neil Cooper of LaGrande; five grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kathryn (Gregory) McFarland, and sister-in-law and her husband, Vera and Harold Burgett. A graveside service at the family plot at the Wallowa Cemetery will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Services are under the direction of Bollman Funeral Home. | 84 | John William Cox, Jr Birth: Aug. 3, 1861 Mosheim Bosque County Texas, USA Death: May, 1915 Socorro Socorro County New Mexico, USA In 1883 John William Cox Jr. and Noah McCuistion drove 1000 head of cattle from Lanes Chapel Bosque Co. TX. to the Datil area of western New Mexico where he started a big ranch in the Datil and Mangas mountains. The ranch was known as the slash JL. The ranch was located between the Alegres , Crosby and Mangas Mountains. Cox Peak which is between the Alegres and Crosby,was named for him. The main ranch house was at the foot of the Alegres Peak. In may of 1915 while hauling a wagon of barbed wire to his place at the Mangas mountains, a spool rolled off and caught his spur and dragged him off the wagon, spooked the mules and was dragged by the wagon. He died from his injuries the next day. The area was one of the last open ranges in New Mexico. The story of his ranches last roundup is told in the March 1975 issue of The True West Frontier Times Magazine. It was said at the time of his death that he had 6000 head of cattle and 250,000 in the bank. In 1918 John's wife Ettie McCuistion married Zeb Brooks one of his ranch hands they went through the money sold the ranch and moved to Pine Top, Arizona where Ettie died in destitute conditions. | 87 | LAUBENSTEIN, Evon Evon Laubenstein of Hamilton, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 22, 2022. She was born June 1, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Elbert and Cora (McCuistion) Phillips. She was a graduate of Hazel Park High School after which she moved with her family to Hamilton. Here she met and married Paul E. Laubenstein, her husband of 58 years. She received a B.S. Degree in Education from Miami University and subsequently taught for a time in the Hamilton City Schools. Evon had many interests including a fondness for dogwoods and elephants, knitting and quilting. Evon's faith in God was her guide in life. She was a member of First Baptist Church and served there and at Immanuel Baptist in many ways and once served as the president of American Baptist Churches of Ohio. She was involved with American Baptist Women's Ministries at local, state and national levels. Evon was honored to become president of the state and national American Baptist Women's Ministries which provided her opportunities to travel here and abroad as she sought to serve God and encourage others to do the same. Evon loved her family well. She is survived by her daughter, Randi (Lawrence) Combs; sons Chris Laubenstein, Todd (Ambryn) Laubenstein; grandchildren, Dorrie (Tim) Azbill, Ryan (Dominique) Combs, Erin (Nathan) Jewell, Christopher Reid, and Erich Laubenstein; six great-grandchildren, Abby, Michael, Emily, Marlin, Brian and Josephine; brothers Bill Phillips and Michael Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews. | 88 | Leroy McQuiston Obituary Leroy Jacob McQuiston Leroy Jacob McQuiston passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at SpringBrook Assisted Living in Onalaska at the age of 100. Leroy was born on January 16, 1923 in Nelson, WI, to Jacob and Josephine (Scott) McQuiston. Leroy was one of 13 children. They attended a one room schoolhouse, so often the siblings would be in school together, sharing the same teacher. When they weren't in school, they helped with the gardening and the family farm. Leroy served in the Army, being discharged in 1951, and then again in 1954. While in the Army for his first tour, Leroy met the love of his life, Sallie. They were married on February 8, 1951, at the American Consulate Building in Tokyo. Upon returning to the States, they lived in Winona, MN, for a short time before moving to Onalaska where they made a wonderful life for themselves. Leroy worked at Trane Company his whole life. Leroy also picked apples in the fall for a local orchard, and would often help his friends work on their corn and soybean fields. When he wasn't busy at work or helping his friends, he could be found working in his garden, which he was immensely proud of! He had the most amazing garden! Leroy also raised bees and sold honey to friends and neighbors. One of Leroy's favorite pastimes was woodworking. He even sold his creations, such as rocking horses and jewelry boxes, at craft shows and to family and friends. After retirement, Leroy and Sallie discovered their love for Casinos. They went on many bus trips to various Casinos and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.His last visit to Ho-Chunk in Black River Falls was just this past Easter. Some of Leroy's greatest joys in life were his daughters and his granddaughters. Fortunately for Leroy he had two granddaughters, as Sallie found it hard to share granddaughter snuggle time with others. Leroy then found it hard to share granddaughter snuggle time too. With the two granddaughters it was a win-win situation for everyone! Leroy continued to live at home until this past February. He then went to live at Brookdale in La Crosse, and then Springbrook in Onalaska. Leroy is survived by his daughters: Ruth (Jim Keil) McQuiston-Keil of La Crosse, and Lani Happel of Onalaska; granddaughters: Caitlyn McQuiston-Keil of Chicago, and Ashley McQuiston-Keil of Madison. Leroy is also survived by his siblings: Evelyn, Jacob, Corabelle, Richard, and Evamay, and many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Josephine; beloved wife, Sallie; siblings: Lloyd, Oliver, Goldene, Doug, Ruby, Calvin, and Josephine. | 89 | Life and times of Simeon McQuiston Nov 12, 2015 "S. McQuiston — 1915" reads the stone cap over the top of the front entrance to the red brick house 1 mile west of Greentown. Begun that year by Simeon J. 'Simi' McQuiston, the home was completed the following year, when the McQuiston family — Simeon, wife Millie. and son Ralph moved in. Simeon McQuiston was a son of pioneers John and Susan Mcquiston, who came to this area in 1873 from Decatur County. Simeon was born in 1878, and married Millie Hamper in 1901. Their son and only child, Ralph, was born in 1906. A farmer, "Simi" McQuiston amassed some 600 acres on which he raised the usual crops, and was a breeder of full blooded cattle and hogs. He employed the most advanced methods of farming, was one of the first to acquire a tractor, and used all of the most modern implements available in his operations. He fenced his fields, placing ornate concrete posts at corners and gates, and he put concrete floors in his barns. On his main farm he enlarged an existing barn, and put up other buildings. For his home he engaged Kokomo architect Charles W. Barrett to draw up plans for the kind of house he himself had been working on the design for. Following a modified Georgian-Colonial style, it would have a full basement with a garage in it for a car. There would be two floors with an attic over the top. It was built up as a frame with brick laid over, and the roof was red tiles. The interior contained front and back stairs, a dining room at the back with etched glass in a bow window, and a large living room where the front door opened onto an equally large porch that could be used for extended living and entertaining in the warm months. The main entrance and a side door under the carport had windows with edges of beveled glass. A front library, a kitchen and pantry, and a bedroom suite rounded out the first floor. Upstairs were four bedrooms, a bath, and a large square hall, In the kitchen was a dumbwaiter that McQuiston used to lift corn up to the attic, where he hung the ears on nails in the rafters to dry! The home was as modern as could be made in 1915, with a central vacuum system, a fire extinguisher, well and soft water, and it was wired for electricity. Wood for the house was cut from woods on the farm, the boards milled and dressed in Kokomo. Mostly oak was used for finishing, with imported birch for the tile-floored kitchen. In early 1906, Simeon, Millie and Ralph moved in. That fall the annual McQuiston family reunion was held at the new home, and Simeon was named secretary. McQuiston belonged to the Greentown Methodist Church and was on the building committee that remodeled their building in 1917, again using Charles W. Barrett as architect. McQuiston tried investing in the United Broom Co., who's chief asset was a revolutionary machine that was going to make sweeping changes in how brooms were made. But mismanagement swept away any profits. He tried the Rapid Rim Co., which promised a new and easy way to change tires, but only quickly rolled its investors. Stevenson Gear Co. of Indianapolis may have proved more profitable, being less shifty than those other concerns. Simeon McQuiston was a member of the Kokomo Chamber of Commerce and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He died on June 1, 1922, at the early age of 43, from a general poisoning of his system due to diseased tonsils. He was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, where a large imported tombstone marks the family plot. Millie McQuiston passed in 1938 and then Ralph and his wife Mary McQuiston lived on the farm. Ralph and Mary's children were twin daughters Josephine(Howell) and Jacqueline (Ladd). Ralph passed in 1989 and the house became home to grandson Bob and Jill Howell and their family. They began remodeling and some structural repairs were necessary, so they had the Helvie Co. of Flora raise some settled areas with jacks. The specialized updating the house required was done by Mennonite contractor Paul Mullet. In 1991 the home was thrown open to host the annual YWCA show home event, with record numbers of tours. Today the barns that stood behind the house are gone, having fulfilled their purpose, but the land is still owned and worked by the (McQuiston) Howell family, and the home looks as good as the day it was finished — 100 years ago. Edeburn, 77, Sidney, are at 2 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Vicki Waddington, Lonsdale United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating. Lorna was born on July 15, 1937, in Valley County to Clarence and Methel (McQuinstin) Keller. She joined brothers, Laramie, Dean, Steve and Olen. They grew up in the rural area around Richey and south of Poplar. In 1951, they moved to Sidney where Lorna attended schools in Sidney, graduating from Sidney High School in 1958. Lorna was united in marriage to Donald “Don” Edeburn on Nov. 21, 1959, in Sidney. They made their home in Killeen, Texas, while her husband, Don, was in the U.S. Army. While living in Killeen, they had a daughter, Candy. After Don’s honorable discharge they moved back to eastern Montana, where they lived and worked in several different towns. In 1971, they moved to Sidney and have lived here for the last 43 years. Lorna worked at the Snowflake Bakery and as a maid at several different motels. Her and her daughter, Candy, cleaned houses together. Lorna worked hard to pay off her debts and bills. She enjoyed sitting at her window and watching the birds and squirrels playing on her special tree in the early morning. Lorna found peace and comfort drinking coffee while sitting on Candy and Jeff’s deck in the early morning watching the neighbor’s farm or listening to the birds. Candy was her world. Also, Lorna had a friend and protector in Sadie, who was her very best four legged companion. In the young days she enjoyed riding her horse till injury changed that. After Lorna retired, she enjoyed going to McDonalds to have coffee and visit with whoever was there and watch people. She also liked going to Pizza Hut as well as a couple other places. Lorna enjoyed the old western music and watching western movies. She also enjoyed having holiday meals with family and friends at her house. She opened her house to whoever needed it. Lorna enjoyed having her “tea” day with her longtime friend, Rachel Bloesser. She loved a good laugh and even when she had a tough life she still held on to her sense of humor. Lorna was a little stubborn and she also was very spunky. Lorna died on Friday evening, April 3, 2015, in Warm Springs. A service to celebrate her life and honor her memory will be held at 4 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Olive with Dr. H. Dennis Draper Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the church library. Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Allen M. McCuiston and Anna Belle Dunlap McCuiston and was their only child. Mrs. Redmon was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, in which she held many offices through the years. She was locally known for her generous nature and of her involvement in various charitable causes, which include Area Churches in Action Thrift Shop, the food pantry at her church, and the Meals on Wheels program. She was recipient of the Lay Person of the Year award from her church. In 1988, she received the Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year Award, and in 1994, she received the Ernest B. Messner Senior Citizen of the Year Award, and she also received various awards from the Area Churches in Action and the Home Bound services. She was the widow of Emmett D. Redmon, and is survived by their two sons, Emmett D. "Buster" Redmon Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of 144 Loop Road, Goldsboro, and Allen F. | 95 | MCCUISTON, Claude Fredrick Claude "Pops" Frederick McCuiston (Dr. Fred) was born on November 11, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN to Louie Green McCuiston and Claude Brown McCuiston. He passed into the kingdom of Heaven on January 24, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his sisters; Virginia Lane and Helen Burch, and beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Lorie McCuiston. Dr. Fred grew up in Chattanooga, TN. where he graduated Valedictorian of Central High School. He served in the Army for 4 years, then completed his undergraduate degree at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1954 followed by 40+ years of service dedicated to healing others. Dr. Fred served several years as chief of internal medicine at Northside Hospital where he was a founding board member. He was an avid golfer claiming 2 hole-in-ones at the Atlanta Athletic Club, frequent snow skier, family pool shark, and enjoyed boating on Lake Hartwell. Dr. Fred is survived by his three children; Nancy Wehunt (Steve), Scott McCuiston (Nancy) and Dr. Steve McCuiston, five grandchildren; Alex McCuiston, Katie Phillips, Jacob Wehunt, Ellen McCuiston and Charlotte McCuiston, three great-grandchildren; Crate Phillips, Rhett Phillips and Ophelia Jo Wehunt. Services for Dr. Fred will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at two o'clock in the afternoon at Faith Lutheran Church, 691 Benson St. Hartwell, GA. with Rev. Dr. Martin Platzer officiating. Reynolds Hospice Home. Dorothy was born June 28, 1920 in Louisville, Kentucky to Irene Lee and Charles T. McCuiston. She resided at Wyman Road, Winston-Salem many years but more recently at Danby House. Dot was a member of Calvary Moravian Church. A graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School, she attended Salem Academy and served in the U.S. Military Intelligence Division War Department from April 1943 to July 1945. Dorothy was Administrative Assistant to Dr. Robert McMillan for many years but a career change took her to Piedmont Airlines until her retirement. Surviving Dot are two nieces, Linda McCuiston Deahl of Inman, SC and Ann McCuiston McFall of Shallotte, NC and numerous great nieces and great nephews. He had legally changed his name from Gwinn Thomas McCuistion to Michael Harper several years ago. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Rev. Scott Setzer. The family will receive friends at the graveside. Michael was born in Beaufort County on May 25, 1947. He was the son of Mildred Snell McCuistion and the late Robert Henry McCuistion. Michael graduated from Kecoughtan High School and took other courses of study in Hampton, Va. He later lived in Denver, Colorado with his grandmother and worked for AT&T for several years.When his father became seriously ill, Michael returned to Washington. In 1998, his father died and he has been with his mother since that time. Michael would be the son that most mothers would love to have. Although he had fallen and broken his hip badly and unable to work a full time job, Michael made up for this by taking care of his mother, buying groceries, running errands, etc. and even some house cleaning at times.Although he is gone from this earth, he will forever be with his mother. | 100 | Obituary Jeffery A. Griffith, 62, of Peru, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Peru on July 16, 1957 to Paul M. and Mary L. (Hollingsworth) Griffith. He retired as a production worker from Kralis Brothers in Mentone. He had several pets that he loved. He also loved fishing and nature, and enjoyed long walks and his neighbors. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, and was a much loved member of the family. He is survived by a brother James Hollingsworth (wife Betty) of Galveston, and sisters Mary Ellen Townsend Campbell of Peru, Frances Echelbarger of King George, VA, Luann Griffith of Huber Heights, OH, and Brenda K. Griffith Reed (husband Dave) of Wabash. Also surviving are 12 nieces and nephews, several greats and great-greats, and Dillon, his dog and companion. He was preceded in death by his parents.
