      Published: Thursday, September 23, 2010 2:18 AM EDTMr. Michael Harper, age 63, a resident of 405 West 16th Street, Washington, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at his home. He had legally changed his name from Gwinn Thomas McCuistion to Michael Harper several years ago.

      Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Rev. Scott Setzer. The family will receive friends at the graveside.

      Michael was born in Beaufort County on May 25, 1947. He was the son of Mildred Snell McCuistion and the late Robert Henry McCuistion. Michael graduated from Kecoughtan High School and took other courses of study in Hampton, Va. He later lived in Denver, Colorado with his grandmother and worked for AT&T for several years.When his father became seriously ill, Michael returned to Washington. In 1998, his father died and he has been with his mother since that time.

      Michael would be the son that most mothers would love to have. Although he had fallen and broken his hip badly and unable to work a full time job, Michael made up for this by taking care of his mother, buying groceries, running errands, etc. and even some house cleaning at times.Although he is gone from this earth, he will forever be with his mother.
