Oneda Smith McCuiston passed away Thursday July 26, 2024, at NMMC-West Point. She was 95. She was born June 16, 1929 in Saltillo, MS to the late Frank Allen Smith and Mary Philpot Smith. She attended Sunflower Jr. College and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Education in 1961. She taught business education in the Clay County and West Point School Systems for 34 years. Mrs. Mac was active in the Church of Christ in West Point and Starkville. She also was active in the American Legion, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teacher association. She served as Treasurer for both organizations.
Mrs. Mac was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Allen Smith and Mary Philpot Smith and husband of 50 years, W.G. McCuiston: 4 brothers, Earl Smith, Murray Smith, Bud Smith, and Charles Smith; 4 sisters Julia Vowell, Clifford Usery, Agnes Smith, and Anne Brown. Mrs. Mac is survived by one son, Geary McCuiston of Starkville and one daughter, Cherri Musser (Jack) and a grand-dog Grady of Knoxville, TN. The family especially thanks her amazing caregivers: Lori Chisom, Christine Petty, Maggie Pernell, Angela Colbert, and Mary Gibson.
Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday at Robinson Chapel. Visitation with family will be 10-11 AM Monday at the funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Steve White, Pat Gavin, Johnny Jennings, Haze Alsup, Steve Phillips and Mark Castleberry. Honorary pallbearers are: Members of Delta Kappa Gamma, Members of Retired Teachers Association, Dr. Ned Miller, Bailey Howell, Jerry Rogers, John T. Smithson and LeeRoy Phillips.
