- Jay McQuiston Obituary
JAY H. MCQUISTON
The vital spirit of Jay H. McQuiston slipped away on October 30, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.
Jay was born in Richmond, CA on February 13, 1943 to Don and Ernestine McQuiston. The family moved to Chico when he was 2 years old and he has resided here all his life. He attended school in both Paradise and Chico and graduated from Chico High. He also attended Chico State and was a veteran having served in the Army.
Jay was a licensed General Engineering Contractor and owned and operated several businesses: Jay's Window Cleaning, Jay and Mike's Demolition, J and T Portable Fencing, Jay's Bobcat Service. He also worked for Baldwin Contracting and bought and sold real estate in California and Montana. He retired in 1995.
In 2000 he met and married his heart's delight Barbara Colette. Their zest and love of life and for each other flowed over to embrace everyone they met. They shared a love of family, travel and the life they had built together. Jay was a builder of things: cars, furniture, teardrop trailers. He enjoyed collecting vintage items, refinishing old gas pumps and automobile memorabilia. Jay always had a project underway. He was a devoted and loyal friend who was always ready with a helping hand whenever the telephone rang with someone in need.
Jay is survived by his beloved family: wife Barbara and sons Jay J. and Jamie McQuiston all of Chico; granddaughter Sierra McQuiston-Lopez and her partner Tom Beltramo of Roseville; brother Don McQuiston and family of Big Fork, MT; nephew Don McQuiston and family; nieces Marcie Wellens and family and Debra McQuiston all of San Diego; nephews Hank Harris and family of Clarkdale, AZ and Steve Harris and family of Alaska and his faithful and loyal dog Superman. He also leaves a lifetime of dear friends whom he cherished with all his heart.
Think of him often, remembering those dancing blue eyes, ready smile and be grateful that we had the opportunity to have this extraordinary man touch our lives. We will forever hold him in our hearts.
At Jay's request there will be no formal services. The family extends an invitation to family and friends to attend a celebration of Jay's life at the family home 3808 Keefer Road, Chico on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at noon. Please join us and share some food, raise a glass and share our remembrances of this remarkable man.
The Neptune Society of Chico is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Butte Humane Society in Jay's name.
