      Irene grew up on the family farm near Summerfield, NC. She married widower Charles Terry McCuistan on 3 July 1916 in Forsyth county, NC. They lived in Maryland, Jefferson county, KY and Winston-Salem, NC. Charles worked as a machinist for a tobacco company. Charles had a daughter, Mabel (became Mrs. James McCallister), from his previous marriage.
      Charles & Irene had 2 children, Charles T., Jr. and Dorothy.
      After Charles' death, Irene opened and operated a beauty shop in Winston-Salem, NC.
      On 24 May 1940, Irene married widower Paul E. Goldenstar in Forsyth county, NC.
