George A. McQuiston
George A. McQuiston, age 90 of Austin, passed away on June 2, 2010. George was born January, 13, 1920, to William and Ethel (McGonnel) McQuiston of Corry, PA. He married Elnora Preuss of Taylor, Texas on November 18, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. George served his country in WWII in the South Pacific. He attended radio school and joined an invasion force in Hawaii that was prepared for an immediate invasion of Japan but the war ended so he shipped to Japan and went aboard the battleship New Jersey, the Flagship of the Fifth Fleet. George and Elnora moved from Pennsylvania to Austin, Texas in 1945 and he attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1952. While attending the University of Texas he worked as night auditor for the Driskill Hotel. After graduation, George worked for Kruger Jewelry as Comptroller, then joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1954 as an Agent. After working three years in Houston as an Internal Revenue Service Agent, the family moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked as a Tax Law Specialist in the National Office for eight years. George then returned to Austin to fill the vacancy of Manager of the Employee Plans and Exempt Organization. He retired from IRS in 1981. George went to work for Hilgers & Watkins Law Firm, part-time as a Pension Consultant and also established his own business as a Certified Public Accountant administering retirement plans for about 13 years before retiring again in 1994. George is survived by his beloved wife, Elnora, of 65 years, son Dennis and wife, Sherrie' of Abilene, son Bobby and wife, Margaret of Austin, and son George E. of Utah. He is survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Anne Price and Mildred Yount, one half-sister, Phoebe, and two sisters-in-law, Ronnie McQuiston and Pat McQuiston, all of Corry, PA. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
