Sam had three children, Beverly Hodges, Pattie Armitage (preceded her father in death), and Robert McQuisten. He is survived by his wife, Doris; a step-son, David West and his wife, Pam; and step-daughter, Janna Conway and her husband, Mike. Sam had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Sam had many friends and loved ones and will be greatly missed by all of us. Born in Harden, Mo., he lived in the North Syracuse area for the past 31 years. He was an engineer at General Electric Co. in Syracuse for many years. Mr. Strider was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was in the Naval Reserve. He was a member of the Elephant Society at General Electric, and was also a member of GE's Quarter Century Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Vivian Becker; two daughters, Susan K. Strider of Liverpool and Sandra L. Strider of Marcellus; a son, James H. of North Syracuse; his mother, Erimine Strider of Mo.; a brother, Haynes Strider of Texas; three sisters, Gale Vanpelt of Ohio, Pam Manning of Missouri, and Cloeanne Commans of Kansas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Route 11, North Syracuse, the Rev. Leonard Johnson officiating. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Sears-Middleton Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse. | 2030 | Sandra (Sandi) Ann McQuiston-Harms, 74 Sandra (Sandi) Ann McQuiston-Harms, 74, of Wellsburg passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, February 6, 2022. She had courageously battled pancreatic cancer and was under the care of Unity Point Hospice. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded to Iowa Cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Wellsburg Memorial Building, 501 N. Adams in Wellsburg from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Sandi was the daughter of Albert and Bernita (Wogan) McQuiston born on December 29, 1947, in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1966. She attended AIB in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Harms on October 25, 1969. She worked at Fisher Controls, was the Grundy County Zoning Administrator and Sanitarian for 25 years and held several other jobs throughout her career before retirement. She enjoyed playing the piano, dominos and cards with family and friends. She was a fierce competitor but never cared about winning, just having fun. She looked forward to Friday coffee with “the girls.” The most precious gifts in her life were her daughters and grandchildren. She loved attending their activities, sharing her life with them and she could always make them laugh and leave them with a smile. Not only with her own grandchildren, she was a grandma to every child she met. Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her husband, Kenny; her daughters, Tera (Andy Cordes) Clement, of Colo, Jamie (Bruce) Bakker, of Steamboat Rock; sister Donna Stransky, of Conroe, TX; grandchildren: Hunter Clement, of Ankeny, Hannah Clement, of Colo, Logan Bakker, of Steamboat Rock; brothers and sisters in-law: Sandy Harms, Karen (Doug) Sienknecht, Roger Beeghly, Vern (Audrey) Harms, Donna (Russ) Lage, David (Kim) Harms and many nieces and nephews. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2024. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in the Sandburg suite. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12 p.m. in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment will immediately follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Sandy attended Diamond Hill Jarvis Highschool, where she met Berlin "Bud" McCuiston. They were married on October 31, 1971. After 3 kids and 20 years of marriage, they divorced. The next chapter of Sandy's life was spent with her family, friends and her life partner, Doug. She loved crocheting, playing cards, gambling, and taking pictures. She was passionate about capturing every moment with a camera. She was joyful, fun loving and enjoyed life! Sandy was larger than life. If you knew her, you knew what it meant to be loved. She had the most caring heart and never met a stranger. Sandy was the life of the party, bringing joy to everyone that was around her. Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Pritchet; father, Roy Lewis Johnson Sr.; stepfather, James "Speck" Pritchett; brother, Bobby Johnson; nephews, Bruce, Gary Don and Ryan; and niece, Joella. Sandy is survived by her siblings: brother, RL Johnson Jr. and wife, Diane; sister, Diane Barnes and Dusty Young; brother, Stevie Johnson; sister, Gayla Behlke; spouse, Doug Franks; her children, Kim Batterton and husband, Stephen; Chris McCuiston and Laura Neeley; Kelly McCuiston and wife, Sula; stepchildren, Donnie Franks and Monica Franks; grandchildren, Cody Laube and husband, Jason, Shelly McCuiston, Jaycee Smith and husband, Stephen, Kayla Batterton, Triston McCuiston and wife, Olivia, and Veronica Franks; great-grandchildren, Braylee, Omari, Addix, Aiden, Naomi, Penelope, Julian and Fallon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sandy was a very strong person, all the way to the end; the rock and matriarch of the family.
