1915 | Ralph McQuiston January 14, 1946 — September 1, 2022Bountiful Surrounded by his wife and children, James Ralph McQuiston passed peacefully into the next life on September 1st, 2022. Born January 14th, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ralph grew up in Centerville, Utah, where he developed a love of animals and a renowned ability to throw hay bales while working at Smoot Dairy. After graduating from Bountiful High School and serving in the Southwest British Mission, Ralph married his cherished eternal companion, Marlene Hanks, in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 22nd, 1967. With a degree in Electrical Engineering from Salt Lake Community College, Ralph worked for Motorola and Westinghouse and then later earned his general contracting license to begin his lifelong business of Ralph’s Custom Drywall (McQuiston Enterprises). Ralph was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings, including the High Council, Young Mens, and many years in the Scouting program. He was very deeply devoted to the Scouts, attending Wood Badge and numerous outings where he was known for his dutch oven cooking and his spellbinding ability to entertain others. Ralph was able to memorize many poems and songs in his life, and he shared these willingly around roaring campfires and along high mountain trails. Dad loved his six children immensely and sought to provide many rich experiences for their lives. He took them on numerous road trips to national parks and instilled a love of camping and days spent on the water. Dad taught his children by example the value of hard work and attention to detail as well as the importance of serving others. Many remember him as one who would donate his time and resources to help in unconventional ways, such as roping loose bulls in the neighborhood streets, driving his sandbag-laden trailer down the middle of flooded roads, delivering fruit baskets and loaves of bread to friends and neighbors, and repairing broken appliances in the middle of the night. Dad was the quintessential grandpa, keeping his home well stocked with treats and remote-controlled vehicles and allowing the grandkids to play games on his office computers while he made them homemade french fries and restaurant-worthy holiday breakfasts. Ralph was a beloved resident of Covington Senior Living in Farmington, Utah, where he spent the last year of his life. All who knew him there spoke of his kindness and gentle manner, and he deeply loved and respected the talented staff and care workers who enriched his life so compassionately during his stay. Ralph is survived by his spouse, Marlene Hanks McQuiston; his children, Max (Cami), Jay (Andria), Sonja, Marcy, Tammy (Josef), Val (Amber); and his 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, his favorite being a Scout master for many years and was proud of his scouts and their many accomplishments. But his greatest joy was seeing his children’s successes and growth throughout the years and watching his posterity grow. 1943 | ROBBIE MCQUISTON OBITUARY Robbie Walker McQuiston A memorial service for Robbie will be held at Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Friday, May 19, at 11:00 am. Robbie was gifted and creative. She learned to play the dulcimer, tried her hand at falconry, practiced and taught meditation, and smocked dresses for her daughters. She appreciated the detail and precision of icon writing and the expression of abstract art, exploring the idea of angels in particular. Her paintings grace a number of local businesses and homes. Her self-described "gift to myself" at the age of fifty was to go back to school and obtain a master's degree in art history. She then taught art history at the University of Memphis. This second-season career in the arts was built on a foundation of teaching and learning. She was a school teacher and librarian and then devoted her talents to the Episcopal Church. She served at the Church of the Holy Communion; first as the Christian Education director and later she was both the organizer of small group ministries and also was instrumental in the formation of an innovative Sunday night worship service. Her diverse career also included serving as the first Director of Bridge Builders. Robbie loved art and collected religious images including folk art, Madonna statuary, and angels. She relished being in conversation with others and was a dedicated member of multiple study groups and book clubs. She and John loved to travel, especially with friends and family. Her travels took her to Europe, especially her beloved Italy, Peru, Mexico, Thailand, and Bhutan. She hiked in the Smokies, vacationed in Maine, and spent much time in Destin. Her most extraordinary talent was forming meaningful relationships with family and friends. She and John built a community of valued friends. Her last weeks were spent receiving visits from some of the many people who loved her and whose lives were shaped by her presence. A short while before she died, she told John that she had lived a wonderful life. Robbie was preceded in death by her parents, Ione and Billy Walker, and her sister Molly Walker. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John McQuiston; her daughters Anna McQuiston and Katherine Bush; her grandchildren Caroline Holtzclaw, Henry Bush, and John Bush; her son-in-law Stephen Bush; son-in-heart Tod Holtzclaw; her sister Virginia Walker; and nieces Caroline Parsons, Alice Somers, and Joy Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to BRIDGES and Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church. | Walker, Robbie Evelyn (I8542)
