1601 Marty McQuistion Obituary

Marty Lee McQuistion

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Marty "Red" McQuistion, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who departed this world Friday, January 17, 2025.

Known for his kind and caring heart, Marty was the person everyone turned to in times of need, and he never hesitated to help-whether it was a neighbor, a friend, or a stranger. Born February 20, 1957, and a graduate of Tiffin Columbian in 1975, Marty lived a life full of purpose and passion. He had an uncanny ability to build or fix anything, from restoring old cars to repairing things around the house for anyone who asked. But his true gift was the way he cared for people. His warmth and big-hearted nature made everyone feel welcome, and his presence was a constant source of comfort and reassurance. Marty had a love for the outdoors and shared that joy with all who knew him. Whether fishing at sunrise, hunting in the woods, working on construction projects, or bowling a perfect game, he embraced life with enthusiasm and a quiet strength that inspired others. Yet, nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, especially his eight beloved grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter, their patient teacher, and their greatest source of hugs and encouragement.

Surviving is Teresa, the love of his life for 47 years; their children, Rena (Bryan) Hicks and Aaron (McKenzie) McQuistion, who carry forward his spirit of kindness and generosity; and his eight treasured grandchildren, Dillian, Korbin, Olivia, Lilly, Ethan, Savanna, Colton and Ava who were the light of his life. Marty is also survived by siblings, Karen, Terry, Marla, and Dave.

He was predeceased by Kevin and Duane. He will also be deeply missed by his countless friends and neighbors, all of whom he considered family.

Marty was a man who built more than things-he built relationships, memories, and a legacy of love that will endure forever. As we mourn his loss, we celebrate the life of a man who lived with a heart full of love, hands always ready to help, and a spirit that made the world a better place.

A private celebration of Marty's life will take place Friday, January 24, 2025. Rest easy, Marty, your kindness and love will forever guide us. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn.

1608 Mary Ann McCuistion was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, July 5 1804. she was married to Jesse Summers Feb. 20, 1823, professed religion and joined the Baptist church in 1825. Jesse Summers, her devoted husband died Dec. 30, 1827, and she was married to Thos. McCuistion Dec. 10, 1829. They moved to Mississippi in 1837, where they remained until 1851, when they moved to Nacogdoches county, Texas, where they have ever since lived, and where she died May 8, 1892, being aged eighty-seven years, ten months and three days.
Sister McCuistion was the oldest member of the oldest church in Texas. Her membership has been continuously with the old North Church for over forty years.

When the split took place between the Missionary and anti-Missionary Baptists in 1830, she refused to take sides in the controversy and remained with the original church and really held it together. She was the mother of eight children, only four of whom survive her. During all those years of her pilgrimage, she was a most tender and devoted mother, an affectionate and faithful wife, a consistent and consecrated Christian. Her husband had the misfortune a few weeks ago to be accidentally hurt, and for a time his life was in jeopardy. During his period of suffering, her care of him was as touchingly tender as it might have been half a century ago. She lingered about two weeks on the banks of the river of death, and then passed over to her home in heaven. She was fully conscious of her approaching death and spoke of it calmly and hopefully unto the end. She called around her bedside her family and friends and bade each a touching farewell, gave careful instructions and faithful admonitions, and then in the fulness of time, ripe with age and rich in experience, she fell asleep in Jesus.

The whole community waited at her bedside and followed her beloved remains to the tomb. She had looked back on a life well spent, with a conscience void of offense toward God and man, and looked forward to the land of the glorified with sweet and hopeful anticipations.

1634 Mary Lynda McCuistion Lewis

Birth Date: May 8, 1931
Death Date: Dec 9, 2024

Funeral Date: Dec 17, 2024, 2:00 pm
Location: First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, AR

Biography: Mary Lynda McCuistion Lewis, who loved well and was so well loved in return, died peacefully on December 9, 2024.

For the first eleven years of her life growing up in El Dorado, Arkansas, Lynda was the adored only child of J.B. and Margaret McCuistion. That changed with the birth of a sister, Sandra (nicknamed “Butchie”), who became her great joy and best friend.

After graduation from El Dorado High School in 1949, Lynda attended two years at Henderson State Teachers College and then married her high school beau, Sexton Lewis. The couple moved to Little Rock where Sexton began a cardiology residency and later practice, while Lynda worked first at the Little Rock Housing Authority and then at Arkansas Power and Light. They had two children, a son, John, and a daughter, Sarah.

Among other community involvement, Lynda devoted much of her time outside the home to First United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Over the years, she served on every committee of the church and especially enjoyed her volunteer work with “Contact,” a crisis call center. She made life-long and deeply cherished friends through the Bowen Sunday School Class and singing in the church Ensemble. Lynda had a positive and loving spirit, never uttering a bad word about anyone. She had a keen mind and could work the Times crossword in a flash, go through two novels a week, and always won in Trivial Pursuit. She was also just fun to be with. Poised and gracious, Lynda had an unsuspecting and witty sense of humor and loved a good joke or well-timed quip.

Most of all, Lynda was utterly devoted to her family. She spent countless hours with her beloved children and grandchildren and their activities. She traveled extensively, both home and abroad with them. This included many cross country car trips patiently endured in the back of the family minivan with fractious grandchildren. Those times and trips will not be forgotten. Lynda’s unending care and involvement in the lives of her grandchildren earned her the moniker of “Mommy Too,” (as in also my mom) coined by an observant and adoring grandchild. Her favorite times were hosting her family and her sister’s family at Christmas in her home, playing the piano while directing the assigned singing parts of the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” The singing talent may have been lacking but the fun was not. She will be deeply missed but leaves joy in the hearts of all she touched and loved.

Lynda is survived by her two children, Sarah Lewis James (Paul) and John Lewis (Vicki) of Little Rock and her five grandchildren: Gray and Logan Lewis, and Frances, Drew, and Caroline James. She is also survived by her brother-in- law, Howard Elder of Rocky Face, Georgia, and nephews, Steve Elder (Anastasia) of Starkville, Mississippi, Bruce Elder (Heather) and Scott Elder (Brooke) both of Atlanta, as well as eight great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved parents and sister, Sandra McCuistion Elder.

The family is extremely grateful for the support of Lynda’s friends and the loving care she received by the dedicated staff at the House of Three and Gentiva Hospice, particularly in her last days.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with reception to follow in Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the First United Methodist Church, 723 Center St., Little Rock, Arkansas 72201 or to a charity or nonprofit of your choosing. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
