      Obituary

Ferne A. (Gregg) McQuiston, age 103, of Marion passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 in her niece’s home.
Ferne was born November 19, 1914 in Three Rivers, Michigan the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Smith) Gregg.  She married Glen R. McQuiston and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2002.  They were married just shy of celebrating 60 years together.
Ferne was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1933 and later attended Marion Business College.  She worked 10 years at Midwest Paper Company and 17 years at Ladies Style Wear in Downtown Marion.  She played in the Orchestra under teacher Lloyd DaCosta Jones at Marion High School and also sang in the Glee Club.
She attended First Baptist Church in Marion where she sang in the choir.  She later joined Immanuel Baptist Church and taught a Women’s Bible Class.  She was currently attending Hanfield United Methodist Church.  Ferne belonged to the Grant County Art Association, the A.A.R.P., Y.W.C.A. and First Advantage Club of First National Bank.  She enjoyed art, music, painting and doing ceramics.
Ferne Gregg was a legendary Marion Giant Alumni who gave a generous donation to the Alumni Association to open three endowments for Academics, Arts and Athletics!  Countless kids have benefitted by her gifts and will forever because of the endowments she started.  The Alumni is now close to $250,000.00 since April of 2015 because other Giants were inspired to give.  The Alumni honors Ferne Gregg for being a GIANT difference maker and leaving a legacy.
She is survived by her niece, Dorothea McVicker; great-nephew and great-niece, Jeff and Brenda McVicker with whom she lived with the last several years; and several great-nieces and great-nephews from the Dorothea (John) McVicker family, Phyllis (Bob) McCoy family and Joan (Lloyd) Hall family.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Ballinger, Betty Keller, and Mabel Howard; and two nieces, Joan Hall and Phyllis McCoy.
Friends and family may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W.
