      Obituary in Huntsville newspaper:
Brother Gideon Skaggs was born in Knox county, Tenn., Oct. 13th 1812, and departed this life April 15th, 1892. Professed religion in August 1876, and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and remained a consistent member of the same until his death. He married Pollie Ann Daugherty who survives him, with eight children, some of whom have gone West. Brother Skaggs was a good man, and was best loved by those who knew him best. I have known him all my life, and he always acted as he thought best for the church and the country at large, and was a good neighbor.
We believe that Brother Skaggs is a rest. His sickness was only for a few hours. He told his family that he would not get well and must die. When asked if he was afraid to die, he replied that he was not and that he was prepared to go.
Some of Brother Skaggs children are yet in their sins. I pray you, dear children, to examine your case by the word of God and see how far away you will be from your father if you die in your wicked state. Prepare to meet him in heaven.
Weep not, Sister Skaggs, for your loss is his gain; for the earthly house of Bro. Skaggs is dissolved but he has a building of God, not made with hands, eternal and in the heavens.

The attachment states, "Hill C Daugherty and ____nant McCuistion was married 27 of November 1821 [All other records indicate 1827]" This information is said to have come from the Daugherty - McCuistion Family Bible.

Found some things at the library.... Wanted you to have a copy.. Have you seen the story about Hill C. Daugherty (husb of Catherine Tennant McCuistion) and the wagon train west to California? From a newspaper article written in 1907 in California.

      Thanks, Gayle Foster
