James Vernon McCuistionApril 12, 1936 - January 2, 2012
James “A-MAC” McCuistion, 75, of Winnie passed away on January 2, 2012, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1936, to Vernon and Era Brandon McCuistion in Nacogdoches. James lived in the Vidor area for twenty-five years and moved to the Winnie area in 2003. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved being with his family and friends. James enjoyed going to the casinos and playing poker, building bird houses, and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a United States Army veteran. James is survived by his loving wife of twenty years, Anna Reed McCuistion; stepchildren, Eric Phelan and his wife, Laurie, Jason Phelan and his wife, Cheryl and Shannon Reed and her husband, Jarrod; grandchildren, Colton Phelan, Liam Phelan, Sean Phelan, Makayla Reed and Bailey Phelan; nieces, Barbara McNally and Karla Patella; nephew, Karl McCuistion; and a host of friends. He was a father figure to Donald Riddick, Andy Lezak and Gerald Collins, and many others. James will be missed by his long-time friend Larry Tinkle and special “running buddies” Bill Guillory and Al Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise Spradley and Juanita Nelson; and brother, Leon McCuistion.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 8:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday morning at Broussard’s.
