      Funeral services for F. Morton Scott Jr. will be conducted Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Martin Funeral Chapel of Elk City. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
      Frederick Morton Scott Jr. was born January 15, 1930 at Chickasha, OK to Frederick Morton and Lois Elaine (Chastain) Scott and passed away January 15, 2011 at the age of 81. He graduated from Seminole High School and later received a Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma.
      He was an ardent Oklahoma historian, journalist, writer, political columnist and was known for his interest and expertise in genealogy. He was active in several community organizations in Elk City, and for several years had a local radio show, "Tales of the West OK", which focused on western Oklahoma history. He also authored several newspaper columns that appeared regularly in local small-town papers.
      Mr. Scott served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and witnessed the evacuation of Hungnam Harbor aboard the USS Mt. McKinley in 1950.
      He was married to Owene Simpkins on April 22, 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Joanne Katherine Schachle, who currently resides in Colorado.
      During his working career, Mort worked as a reporter and sports editor for several Oklahoma newspapers, was a city planner for Oklahoma City and Norman, and later worked for the state of New York under Governor Rockefeller. He retired in 1984 from the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
      Survivors include 2 sons: Frederick Morton Scott III of Elk City and Joe Ellis Scott of Greensboro, NC.
