      Janet McQuesten Hughes

Janet McQuesten Hughes, 91, died on Saturday, April 3, 2010 in Newton, Massachusetts, after a period of declining health.

Miss Hughes was born on March 31, 1919, at Newton Center, Massachusetts, to the artist Hiram Champney Hughes, and his wife, a fellow artist, Margaret Bradt McQuesten.

Miss Hughes received her preparatory education in the Newton School System and was a graduate of the George Vesper School of Art. Her career as an artist and illustrator was tragically cut short by her development of rheumatoid arthritis, after which she turned to writing short stories and composing poetry. She was the recipient of several poetry awards including a first place award by the National Library of Poetry for her original poem, “A Store that Sells Rainbows.”

In addition to her writing, Miss Hughes was also active in the arena of professional dog shows. She was always most happy showing her beloved Doberman Pincers. A trunk full of ribbons attest to her success in that endeavor. A lover of nature and of all animals, Miss Hughes was a kind and gentle soul.

Survivors include her cousins of the McQuesten Family in Litchfield.

At Miss Hughes’ request, services will be private. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.

The Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua has been placed in charge of arrangements, www.davisfuneralhomenh.com, (603-883-3401) “ONE MEMORY LIGHTS ANOTHER.”
