  • Notes 
    • Mary Jane McCuistion was a strong character and a perfect lady throughout her long life. When a child, her step-mother's sister, Catherine McGuire, made Mary spin long hours--punishment was by cutting at her legs with bois d'arc switches. The scars were carried to Mary's grave at the age of 88. Brother Noah took Mary, aged 6, and two other children and moved to a cabin on the far side of Joshua McCuistion's land by a spring, never again to return to the father's house.
