    • Oliver and Betsy probably married in California. Oliver P. is reported to have gone to the gold mines near Sutter's Fort, California, in 1856--in the spring. He is reported to have a brother, Robert. He is reported to have married a woman who had been married before, and who had a small daughter. He is supposed to have left his wife in the summer of 1856 and was not seen by her again; she crossed the mountains to Carson City, where Alvin James was born.
