With peaceful acknowledgement that our God does all things well, today we celebrate the life of Robert Gary McCuistion who passed away on August 5, 2022 at the age of 96 in Austin, Texas.
Born on February 22,1926 in Dallas, Texas. He married Patsy Ruth Newman on February 4,1950 who preceded him in death on March 15, 2020. He finished high school in Tyler, Texas in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy, serving until 1946 as an Electronics Technician. After completing his service in the Navy, he attended Louisiana Tech, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. There he met his life's love and companion. He worked in oil exploration for 41 years as a geophysicist retiring from Forest Oil Corporation as Chief Geophysicist. He was active in his church, Southcrest Baptist, in Lubbock, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and on various committees. He was also a Mason. His hobby was as an amateur radio operator, W5HY, communicating with stations through the world.
He is survived by his three children: Robert Patt McCuistion (Darlene) of Montgomery, Texas; Dr. Rodger Lewis McCuistion ( Cynthia) of Volente, Texas; and Rebecca McCuistion Neujahr ( Jeff) of Austin, Texas and six grandchildren, Kelli McCuistion Walker, Mark McCuistion, Jolie McCuistion Cypert, Ross McCuistion, Christie Neujahr Casas, Kelly Neujahr Wieneke and eleven great grandchildren, Emerson Cypert, Genevieve Cypert, Grayson Cypert, Mox McCuistion, Jax McCuistion, Jake Casas, Jared Casas, David Casas, Emma Wieneke, James Wieneke, and Ethan Wieneke. He was preceded in death by his sister Bernice Porter and parents Rev. Robert Lewis McCuistion and Florence Gary McCuistion.
He was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Dad gave us the first impression of God: Loving, generous, merciful and firm when needed; wise and always there for us. He made it easy for us to experience God as a loving Father. He loved us, and we knew it. Private services will be at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. His chains are gone, he has been set free. His God, his Savior has set him free. All is well, all is good. Well done.
      Job 19:23
"Oh, that my words could be recorded.
Oh, that they could be inscribed on a monument,
Carved with an iron chisel and filled with lead,
      Engraved forever in the rock.
I know that my Redeemer lives,
And he will stand upon the earth at last.
And after my body has decayed,
Yet in my body I will see God.
I will see him for myself.
Yes, I will see him with my own eyes.
I am overwhelmed at the thought!"
