      Helen McQuistion, 79, of Fort Pierre, died at her home on July 13, 2011. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 17 at the First United Methodist Church. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17 at the First United Methodist Church. Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18 at the First United Methodist Church with burial at Scotty Philip Cemetery.

      Helen Louise (Marxen) McQuistion was born in Selby to Oscar and Violet (Sudbury) Marxen on Dec. 11, 1931. Helen attended Selby schools through graduation.

      Helen moved to Pierre with her parents where her dad started working on the new dam. While still in Selby, she and a friend attended a dance in Hayes, where she met her future husband, Ray McQuistion. Ray and Helen wed on Oct. 31, 1954. To this union four children were born. Helen, better known as mom or grandma, took great pride and pleasure in all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always stated her greatest achievement was her family.

      Helen was a rancher’s wife and helped Ray for 52 years on their ranch west of Fort Pierre. Helen was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a life-time member of the Pierre United Methodist Church.

      Helen is survived by four children, Tim and Sandy of West Valley, Utah; Ron and Loretta, of Fort Pierre; Becky, of Murdo; Vicki (Dave) Morgan, of Pierre; 12 granddaughters; Shauna Heddleston, Kala McQuistion, Sheila (Jason) Knowlden, Christa McQuistion, Randi (Blake) Norman, Jamie McQuistion, Loni McQuistion, Jacki (Brendan) Nelson, Lynsey (Joe) Thornell, Kelli Pol, Violet Morgan, Helayna Morgan and 12 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Esther McQuistion, and many more nieces and nephews.

      Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, her parents and her brother, Dean Marxen.
