    • Oliver and Betsy probably married in California. Oliver P. is reported to have gone to the gold mines near Sutter's Fort, California, in 1856--in the spring. He is reported to have a brother, Robert. He is reported to have married a woman who had been married before, and who had a small daughter. He is supposed to have left his wife in the summer of 1856 and was not seen by her again; she crossed the mountains to Carson City, where Alvin James was born.

    • Alan writes, "...it is thought by some that his [Oliver's] father is John, Samuel or Thomas of Bedford County, Tenn, or James of Jefferson County, Tenn. Hancock City is where Nauvoo is - the site of the Mormon exodus headed for the west and eventually Utah. OP could have been Morman."
