      Lloyd Carlisle McCuiston, Jr., 103, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in Memphis, Tenn.
      He was born March 26, 1918, to Lloyd Carlisle and Myrtle Potts McCuiston in Memphis, Tenn.
      He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Ferguson McCuiston; his daughter, Diane Ault (Gerry); three granddaughters, Shelby Ward (Chris), Lisa Arrington (Lyle) and Karsen Driskell (Cody); grandson, Justin McCuiston; great-grandchildren, Ryley McCuiston, Colin McCuiston, Averie Ward, and Sara Arrington.
      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Olivia "Lib" McCuiston in 2009; and one son, Lloyd C. McCuiston, III.
      He spent most of this life in Crittenden County. Lloyd attended Hulbert West Memphis High School where he played football and basketball. He attended Marion Institute and Oklahoma State. He graduated from University of Arkansas, where he was a wrestling champion and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
      After graduating Lloyd worked in Panama, building a secret air base and other facilities near Costa Rica protecting the Panama Canal.
      Immediately following Pearl Harbor, he joined the Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal and Peleliu. Upon his military discharge he returned home to Crittenden County and began farming.
      Always interested in politics, he served as Circuit Court Clerk of Crittenden County for 10 years. In 1961, he was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives and served for 34 years under seven governors: Orval Faubus, Dale Bumpers, Winthrop Rockefeller, David Pryor, Jim Guy Tucker, and Frank White. Representative McCuiston was elected Speaker of the House in 1981 and 1982, Chairman of City, County, and Local Affairs and Chairman of the Legislative Joint Audit committees. He was honored in February of 2010 with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lloyd was especially proud of having passed Legislation establishing Mid-South Community College.
      Lloyd had a life-long love for sports and was an avid Razorback fan. He enjoyed golf and loved fishing, to the point that he made yearly trips to Central and South America. He was a member of United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Meadowbrook Country Club.
      Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in West Memphis on Sunday, November 14, 2021 1-2 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. The interment will be at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark.
