    • There is no record of any marriage of this John; that he did not marry and left no heirs is verified by the fact that at his mother's death, his share of the estate was divided between Robert's heirs and his brother, William. Walter Ruffin in 1895-1900 gathered some family history and traditions. He wrote: "There was a John among those old ones who lived and died near Greensboro. He never married and all the older ones called him 'Cousin John.'
